Thinking Big is the title of the Ubud Writers Festival’s special event at bridges Restaurant in Ubud. It brings together three amazing storytellers and writers for a banquet of big ideas.

Australian entrepreneur and adventurer Tony Wheeler is the man behind Lonely Planet, lovingly described by The New York Times as the trailblazing patron saint of the world’s backpackers and adventure travelers. Over the past 30 years, he has traveled far, researched and written numerous guide books. After selling Lonely Planet, he and his wife Maureen Wheeler have endowed the Wheeler Centre for Books, Writing, and Ideas, and set up the Planet Wheeler Foundation. Tony also sits on the board of the Global Heritage Fund which protects cultural sites in the developing world.

Reza Aslan (USA/Iran) is an internationally renowned writer, commentator, professor, producer, and scholar of religions. His books, including the #1 New York Times Bestseller, Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth, have been translated into dozens of languages around the world. He is also a recipient of the prestigious James Joyce Award. In addition to his role as a consulting producer for acclaimed HBO series, Aslan is the host and producer of two original television shows and Executive Producer of Emmy-nominated documentaries. His first book No god but God: The Origins, Evolution, and Future of Islam were named one of the 100 most important books of the last decade by Blackwell Publishers.

A courageous woman, Karachi-based journalist Sanam Maher has for more than a decade covered stories on Pakistan’s art and culture, business, politics, religious minorities, and women. Her sensational book A Woman Like Her`The Short Life of Quandeel Baloch was described as the powerful story of a woman who was ahead of their time by BBC News.

The three panelists will share stories and discuss ideas, journeys, and their books expertly moderated by writer Gill Westaway while guests enjoy a delicious three-course menu with optional paired wines. Definitely an evening of creativity and culinary delights not to be missed!
