Overstay Violation, Dutch Citizen Deported

Foreign Citizen (WNA) with the initials RB (34) from the Netherlands, was deported for violating Article 78 Paragraph 3 of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration.

The Denpasar Immigration Detention Center under the leadership of the Indonesian Minister of Law and Human Rights Supratman Andi Agtas, has deported RB after previously claiming to be on vacation in Bali, but experiencing financial problems after his bank account in the Netherlands was blocked by his family.

“He was unable to buy a return ticket, pay the overstay fine, or meet daily needs such as food and accommodation,” said the Head of the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center, Gede Dudy Duwita, recently as quoted from Media Bali newspaper.

It is known that RB no longer had any money, he decided to go to Ngurah Rai Airport, Badung, and sleep there to wait for officers.

“He admitted that he could not pay for accommodation, buy food, let alone buy a return ticket or pay the overstay fine. He decided to sleep at the airport for almost 10 days by asking for food assistance from foreign nationals around, then airport officers took him to the Class I Special TPI Ngurah Rai Immigration Office and it was found that RB had overstayed 79 days,” explained Dudy Duwita.

The Class I Special TPI Ngurah Rai Immigration Office handed RB over to the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center (Rudenim) on August 19, 2024 for detention and further deportation efforts.

“After RB was detained for 44 days at the Denpasar Rudenim, RB was finally deported to his hometown. RB was deported via I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on October 2, 2024 with the final destination being Schipol International Airport escorted by Denpasar Rudenim officers. RB was included in the list of deterrents to the Directorate General of Immigration,” he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Bali Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Pramella Yunidar Pasaribu, said that the deportation of RB was real evidence that the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, especially the Immigration ranks, were always committed to maintaining order and state sovereignty in terms of immigration.

“We will take firm action against any immigration violations, including overstaying, in accordance with applicable regulations,” he concluded. 012
